UGREEN AC650 High Gain Dual Band Wireless Adapter
Product Description
The UGREEN CM496 (AC650) is a high-gain dual-band USB Wi-Fi adapter with a 6 dBi external antenna, built for PCs that sit far from the router or behind thick walls. It links at up to 433 Mbps on 5 GHz and 200 Mbps on 2.4 GHz through a USB 2.0 plug, and Windows 11 down to XP picks it up with the built-in driver. It is the better choice over an internal-antenna dongle when signal strength, not raw speed, is the problem.
Desktop PCs often have no Wi-Fi, and older laptops have weak or slow cards. The UGREEN CM496 USB Wi-Fi adapter plugs into a USB port and connects your computer to your Wi-Fi network. It is made for desktop and laptop users with weak or no Wi-Fi.
Key Features and Benefits
- AC650 dual band: AC650 dual-band (2.4 GHz and 5 GHz).
- 6 dBi high-gain antenna: the tall external antenna pulls in a weaker signal than a compact nano adapter can, and it rotates 90 and 180 degrees so you can aim it towards the router.
- Dual band: join a 5 GHz network for less interference or a 2.4 GHz network for distance; the adapter switches between them automatically.
- Station plus Soft AP: share a desktop's Ethernet connection as a Wi-Fi hotspot while the adapter stays connected to the main network.
- Standard USB 2.0 plug: fits any USB-A port, including older desktops, without needing USB 3.0.
Made for Life in Nairobi and Across Kenya
Give a desktop PC in a home office Wi-Fi access, upgrade a laptop in a student hostel, or connect a PC at a shop counter to the router.
Buying and Setup Tips
- Check which Wi-Fi band your router uses.
- Plug into a USB port at the speed listed.
- Install any driver recommended for your operating system.
- It is a one-antenna (1T1R) design, so top speed is lower than the two-antenna CM492; choose this model for reach and the CM492 for throughput on a USB 3.0 port.
- macOS is not listed as supported.
Who It's Perfect For

- Students and remote workers
- Small offices
- Anyone upgrading old Wi-Fi

Frequently Asked Questions
Will it work with my router?
It works with routers on the standards in the product title; check your router bands.
Do I need a driver?
Windows may detect it automatically; use the manufacturer driver if it does not.
Is the CM496 better than the CM492 for a weak signal?
Yes. The 6 dBi external antenna gives it more gain than the CM492's internal antennas, so it holds a connection in rooms where a nano adapter drops out, although its maximum speed is lower.
Does it work with a Mac?
Retail listings cover Windows and Linux only, so we would not recommend it for macOS.
Can I move the antenna?
The antenna folds 90 degrees and swivels 180 degrees, so you can stand it upright on a desktop or fold it flat beside a laptop.
