UGREEN AC1300 Wireless Network Adapter

Product Description

The UGREEN CM492 is an AC1300 dual-band USB Wi-Fi adapter that gives a desktop PC or older laptop a modern 802.11ac connection through a spare USB port. It runs at up to 867 Mbps on 5 GHz and 400 Mbps on 2.4 GHz over a USB 3.0 interface, so it suits streaming, video calls and online gaming on a machine that has no Wi-Fi card or only a slow single-band one.

Desktop PCs often have no Wi-Fi, and older laptops have weak or slow cards. The UGREEN CM492 USB Wi-Fi adapter plugs into a USB port and connects your computer to your Wi-Fi network. It is made for desktop and laptop users with weak or no Wi-Fi.

Key Features and Benefits

  • AC1300 dual band: AC1300 dual-band.
  • Dual band, Wi-Fi 5: connect to 5 GHz for speed and lower interference, or fall back to 2.4 GHz for range when the router is a few rooms away.
  • USB 3.0 interface: the USB 3.0 plug keeps the 867 Mbps 5 GHz link from being throttled by the port; it also works in USB 2.0 sockets at reduced speed.
  • Two built-in antennas: a 2T2R design with two high-gain antennas inside a thumb-sized housing, so nothing sticks out of the side of a laptop.
  • Station and SoftAP modes: use it to join a network, or turn a wired desktop into a Wi-Fi hotspot for a phone or tablet.
  • WPS button: press once to pair with a WPS-enabled router without typing the password.

Made for Life in Nairobi and Across Kenya

Give a desktop PC in a home office Wi-Fi access, upgrade a laptop in a student hostel, or connect a PC at a shop counter to the router.

Buying and Setup Tips

  • Check which Wi-Fi band your router uses.
  • Plug into a USB port at the speed listed.
  • Install any driver recommended for your operating system.
  • Windows 10 and 11 pick the adapter up without a driver; Windows 7/8 and macOS need the driver from UGREEN's support site.
  • Retail listings state that it does not support Macs with Apple M-series chips, so for a recent MacBook check first.
  • To get 5 GHz speeds your router must broadcast a 5 GHz network.
  • This is a Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) adapter, not Wi-Fi 6.

Who It's Perfect For

  • Desktop PC owners
  • Students and remote workers
  • Small offices
  • Anyone upgrading old Wi-Fi

Frequently Asked Questions

Will it work with my router?
It works with routers on the standards in the product title; check your router bands.

Do I need a driver?
Windows may detect it automatically; use the manufacturer driver if it does not.

Will the CM492 work in a USB 2.0 port?
Yes. It falls back to USB 2.0 speeds, which still comfortably covers a 2.4 GHz link and most home broadband, but the full 867 Mbps 5 GHz rate needs a USB 3.0 port.

Can I use it to share my desktop's wired internet over Wi-Fi?
Yes. SoftAP mode turns the adapter into a small access point, so a PC on Ethernet can serve Wi-Fi to a phone or tablet in the same room.

Does it support Wi-Fi 6 routers?
It connects to them, but at Wi-Fi 5 (802.11ac) rates. For Wi-Fi 6 speeds you would need an 802.11ax adapter.
